在過去幾年中，定量分析的應(yīng)用，即、運籌學(xué)/管理科學(xué)、統(tǒng)計學(xué)和有關(guān)領(lǐng)域，以解決社會經(jīng)濟規(guī)劃和發(fā)展領(lǐng)域中出現(xiàn)的跨學(xué)科問題。《社會經(jīng)濟規(guī)劃科學(xué)》是一份國際期刊，專門研究這一重要但代表性不足的領(lǐng)域。它為研究提供了一種可能不會出現(xiàn)在更專業(yè)的期刊上的媒介，這要么是因為研究的跨學(xué)科或應(yīng)用特性，要么是因為研究的數(shù)學(xué)/定量性質(zhì)。因此，該雜志是迄今為止在廣泛分散的資料來源和/或不適當?shù)馁Y料來源中出現(xiàn)的調(diào)查的重點。社會經(jīng)濟規(guī)劃科學(xué)強烈鼓勵對服務(wù)和公共部門的重要決策問題應(yīng)用定量模型和技術(shù)作出貢獻。特別令人感興趣的是在世界發(fā)展中國家和經(jīng)濟新興區(qū)域進行的這種研究。審查重要方法和實質(zhì)性領(lǐng)域的文章也是令人感興趣的。校長標準用于評估一個手稿提交給《華爾街日報》:獨特性或創(chuàng)新的工作方法被開發(fā),和/或應(yīng)用問題特別重要的公共或服務(wù)部門和/或設(shè)置的努力正在取得,例如一個新興地區(qū)的世界。也就是說，對于模型/方法本身、應(yīng)用程序和問題上下文，至少其中一個必須是惟一的和重要的。在評審提交的論文時，還需要考慮的其他標準包括準確性、組織/演示(即邏輯流程)和寫作質(zhì)量。《日刊》所載專題領(lǐng)域的代表如下:旨在更有效地利用現(xiàn)有資源的研究，例如與更有效的方案設(shè)計有關(guān)的衛(wèi)生保健提供系統(tǒng)數(shù)學(xué)規(guī)劃模型;火災(zāi)爆發(fā)的系統(tǒng)分析及其與消防站位置的關(guān)系;發(fā)展中國家經(jīng)濟或工業(yè)效率的統(tǒng)計分析。有關(guān)社會各階層和技術(shù)相互作用的研究，例如政府保健政策對醫(yī)院設(shè)施的利用和設(shè)計的影響;住房密度與公共交通或其他服務(wù)設(shè)施需求之間的關(guān)系:城市發(fā)展和空氣或水污染的模式和影響。對社會、衛(wèi)生和其他人類服務(wù)的未來需要作出預(yù)測和作出反應(yīng)的專門研究，例如受影響地區(qū)的工業(yè)增長與教育資源發(fā)展之間的關(guān)系;調(diào)查發(fā)展中國家未來對物質(zhì)和兒童衛(wèi)生資源的需求;在城市環(huán)境中設(shè)計有效的回收利用。

During the last several years, there has been substantial and important growth in the application of quantitative analysis, i.e., operations research/management science, statistics, and related arenas, to interdisciplinary problems arising in the area of socio-economic planning and development.Socio-Economic Planning Sciences is an international journal devoted exclusively to research in this important, but under-represented area. It provides a medium for research that might not appear in more specialized journals, either because of the interdisciplinary or applied character of the study, or the mathematical/quantitative nature of the research. The journal thus serves as a focus for investigations that have hitherto appeared in widely-scattered sources and/or less-than-appropriate sources.Socio-Economic Planning Sciences strongly encourages contributions dealing with applications of quantitative models and techniques to important decision problems in the service and public sectors. Of particular interest are accounts of such studies carried out in developing countries and economically emerging regions of the world. Review articles in important methodological and substantive areas are also of interest.The principal criterion used in evaluating a manuscript submitted to the journal is: uniqueness or innovation of the work in terms of the methodology being developed, and/or its application to a problem of particular importance in the public or service sector and/or the setting within which the effort is being made, e.g. an emerging region of the world. That is to say, of the model/methodology itself, the application, and the problem context, at least one of these must be unique and important.Additional criteria considered in reviewing a submitted paper are its accuracy, the organization/presentation (i.e. logical flow), and writing quality.Representative of the topic areas included in the journal are the following:Studies directed toward the more effective utilization of existing resources, e.g. mathematical programming models of health care delivery systems with relevance to more effective program design; systems analysis of fire outbreaks and its relevance to the location of fire stations; statistical analysis of the efficiency of a developing country economy or industry.Studies relating to the interaction of various segments of society and technology, e.g. the effects of government health policies on the utilization and design of hospital facilities; the relationship between housing density and the demands on public transportation or other service facilities: patterns and implications of urban development and air or water pollution.Studies devoted to the anticipations of and response to future needs for social, health and other human services, e.g. the relationship between industrial growth and the development of educational resources in affected areas; investigation of future demands for material and child health resources in a developing country; design of effective recycling in an urban setting.
